The Unfathomable Contradictions of the Human Mind

If so many hundreds of millions of people around the world of different faiths truly believe in a supreme creator and a spiritual after life, why then do they behave as badly as they do. If they truly believe their lives are being watched every minute of every day by an all powerful, all knowing being, why then do they murder, rape, torture, commit genocide, and war.   Why do they gain a daily self-satisfactory joy from demeaning, degrading, humiliating, harassing, and bullying people? Why do they live selfish, self-absorbed negative lives?  How can they do all of these dark, harmful things and yet truly believe they are being watched and judged by a supreme deity who one day is going to call them out for the life they have led.

You can tell me I’m wrong all I want but, to me, if people really believe they were being judged by an all seeing, all powerful being they would be much better people and the world would be a much better place. When I was a child, I behaved properly in large part because my parents were watching me and judging me. And I knew if I misbehaved, I would be punished for it. Fear of punishment helped to keep me in line. But I don’t believe that same fear is there regarding a supreme deity watching over us. If the fear was there the world would not be in the dark, destructive condition it is now. What people say, what they do, and what they truly believe are often in stark contradiction to one another.  And I believe this is true in regard to the idea of an all powerful deity watching and judging them. There is no fear there. If there was fear there, the world would be a much better place, life would be a much easier road, and light would overwhelm the darkness.
