Living in the Now

The dream like whatever

Of the near and distant past

Is forever gone and lost

To the agents of possible change

They are set in the stone

Of yesterday’s rearview time

I do not dwell or contemplate there

I do not rewind and playback

The words, events, or deeds

To do so would be a waste

Of my precious limited time for living

To do so would bring harm

To my spirit, body, and mind

Nor do I think of the future landscape

Of my condition or the world

It belongs to the yet to be

So, I will not despair or worry

I will not paralyze myself

With a terrifying mortal fear

To do so would bring harm

To my spirit, body, and mind

I will only live in the now

From moment to moment to moment

It is the best way of being

I have wisely come to know

Allowing the spirit, body, and mind

To continue on in this world of ours

Unchained an unburdened by thoughts

That scar us in so many ways

I am living in the moment

As I pen this modest work of poetry

And I will continue to do so

For the rest of warm, sun filled day

Yes, this is truly the best way of being

That I have wisely come to know
